What size mini split do I need?
Size is based mainly on the square footage of the space you want to heat and cool. Measure the room's length × width, then match it to a system: 6,000–9,000 BTU for up to 400 sq. ft., 12,000 BTU for 450–600 sq. ft., 18,000 BTU for 650–900 sq. ft., and 24,000 BTU for 950–1,200 sq. ft.
Rooms with high ceilings, lots of windows or sun, poor insulation, or extreme climates may need the next size up. Not sure? Our U.S.-based team is happy to help.
How many square feet will each BTU size cover?
- 6,000–9,000 BTU: up to 400 sq. ft.

Can a mini split both heat and cool?
Yes. DuctlessAire heat pump systems provide both heating and cooling from one system, so you stay comfortable year-round. A few models are cooling-only — check the product title and details before you buy.
Can I install it myself?
Many customers do. DuctlessAire systems ship with a pre-charged outdoor unit and a complete line set kit, and only need a small opening in the wall to connect the indoor and outdoor units. Installation does require line evacuation, so a professional may be needed depending on your skill set and comfort level.
When should I hire a professional installer?
Consider a licensed HVAC technician or electrician if you're not comfortable with:
- Evacuating (vacuuming) the refrigerant lines
- Electrical work, such as installing a disconnect and connecting to your breaker panel
- Installing a condensate pump where gravity drainage isn't possible
Also check whether local codes or permits apply in your area.
What is SEER / SEER2?
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures cooling efficiency over a typical season — the higher the number, the more efficient the system. SEER2 is the updated U.S. Department of Energy rating standard that took effect in 2023 and uses test conditions closer to real-world installations. ENERGY STAR® certified systems meet additional efficiency guidelines set by the EPA.
What is included with the system?
Most single-zone systems include the indoor wall-mounted air handler, a pre-charged outdoor condenser, a wireless remote, and a 25 ft. installation kit (insulated copper line set with flare nuts, communication wire, drain hose, wall sleeve and cover, and wrap). What warranty is included?
R454B systems include a 10-year compressor and 5-year parts warranty. R410A systems include a 5-year compressor and 1-year parts warranty. See our warranty page for full terms and conditions.
